Now in addition to FooCamp and BarCamp there is MindCamp in Seattle (via Ted Leung). We should have one of these in the Denver/Boulder area. If anyone is putting together a *Camp for Denver, or even thinking about it, I would love to help out.

I like the ad hoc learning idea, but I’d rather not see this catch on too ubiquitously. As someone who’s fairly comfortable with the sitting/listening learning style, I’d much rather be taught by experts than fellow learners. Especially in university settings – where the professors/post-grads are the commodity – I’d rather not waste time listening to someone like me.
The problem is, I should think, that those who can generally do. One who knows a great deal about something will tend to teach it in one way or another (write book, publish software..), and those who know little about subjects will tend *not* to teach those subjects.. so, is there really a need for the unconference?
Perhaps if I went to one I might see what I’m missing!

As someone who’s fairly comfortable with the sitting/listening learning style, I’d like to listen to someone like you talk about stuff that have actually done in the real world, rather than some post-grad that has just read about it and, at best, played with it in some lab. I think you undervalue your expertise.
I agree that good teachers are often experts but experts often have jobs outside of academia. It seems to me that the purpose of a conference like this is to gather a bunch of experts into a small space and let them rub off on each other. And beside an expert is anyone who know more than you do.

While you might not think you konw enough to write a book, or whatever, you probably would agree to help teach an hour workshop about a subject you know alot about if someone you respected ask you to.
